Burleson and Burleson Centennial high schools among the best academics in the nation
Burleson and Centennial high schools help Burleson ISD rank among the nation’s best in the U.S. News and World Report’s 2020 Best High Schools ranking.
It puts BISD in the top 30% in the nation.
Centennial ranks nationally in the top 25% out of nearly 18,000 schools. The Spartans rank in the top 22% out of approximately 1,500 schools in Texas.
Burleson High School ranks 30% in both categories, respectively.
“It is a tremendous accomplishment to have both BHS and CHS recognized nationally as top-performing schools,” said BISD Superintendent Dr. Bret Jimerson in a press release. “Students in BISD continue to excel and this recognition is evidence of our dedication to provide a quality education for all.”
The highest-ranked schools are those whose students excelled on state tests and performed beyond expectations; participated in and passed a variety of college-level exams; and graduated in high proportions, according to a U.S. News and World Report release.
The U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools analyzed data from 24,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia to identify top-performing high schools based on six factors for the 2017-2018 academic year: college readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, college curriculum breadth, under-served student performance and graduation rates.
“BISD is committed to developing high-quality academic programs,” said BISD Chief Academic Officer April Chiarelli. “This achievement is well-deserved recognition of our students and staff.”
