Burleson ISD and Esports franchise Team ENVY to test high school gaming platform
After a successful Esports Winter Invitational in February, Burleson ISD is once again teaming up with a popular video game league to bring a new online platform to high school students during the coronavirus pandemic.
BISD and Team ENVY, North America’s top Esports franchise based in Dallas is giving students opportunities beyond the traditional learning environment.
Team ENVY will start the launch process with a beta test by BISD students focused on improving the gamer experience when playing games such as Overwatch, Fortnite, Rocket League, League of Legends and Super Smash Bros and on giving these students a chance to Level Up and be more competitive in the ever growing world of Esports.
“Our BISD students learned how to navigate online learning and collaboration long before the current state of affairs,” said Dr. Bret Jimerson, BISD Superintendent. “I believe our students were stretched then, so they are able to achieve now.”
It also allows the BISD students a leg up for a college scholarship at North Texas, UT-Arlington, Texas A&M, Texas Wesleyan and many more.
In February, the Esports Winter Invitational at the Esports Stadium in Arlington saw over 800 students and parents as BISD and Esports partnered up to make history.
“As a Board, we made a commitment to prepare BISD students for college and careers of the future. Technology is a significant component of that preparedness strategy, and it plays a huge part in everyday education for our students,” said BISD board trustee Shawn Minor. “So, whether they are in a traditional classroom or a cyber classroom, we know that our students will learn, grow, create and thrive.”
