Los Angeles Chargers rescued from stuck elevator in downtown Dallas hotel, officials say
Fifteen members of the Los Angeles Chargers’ traveling party, including players, had to be rescued from an elevator at their downtown Dallas hotel Friday night, officials said.
Dallas firefighters responded to The Westin hotel at 1201 Main St. around 7:45 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about people trapped in an elevator, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson Jason Evans said. Efforts by a technician to get the elevator running again were unsuccessful, and DFR’s Urban Search and Rescue team had to be called in.
Rescuers slowly transferred the occupants from the elevator car — which was stuck in a blind shaft between the third and 15th floors — to a nearby working elevator, Evans said.
The stranded team members were taken out of the elevator “one by one” through a ceiling panel, the Chargers said in a social media post.
“The Los Angeles Chargers thank Dallas-Fire Rescue for their quick response, professionalism and substantial efforts in ensuring everyone’s safety,” the post read.
Everyone was out of the elevator by around 10:30 p.m., Evans said.
The Chargers were scheduled to play the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington for their final 2024 preseason matchup.
