Firefighters help 2 residents to safety in Dallas apartment blaze Wednesday night
Firefighters helped two residents to safety after they were trapped in a burning apartment building Wednesday evening, Dallas Fire-Rescue announced in a news release.
At about 7 p.m. Wednesday, units with Dallas Fire-Rescue were dispatched to a 911 call about a fire at an apartment complex located at 220 Stoneport Drive.
When firefighters arrived at the three-story apartment building, they observed fire coming from the breezeways of the structure, according to the release.
Multiple residents had self-evacuated before fire crews arrived, but two people were reported to be trapped on a balcony on the third floor, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.
Firefighters then used a ladder and helped the two residents climb to safety, the release states.
The American Red Cross was notified to assist with the needs of 12 residents — four adults and eight children — who were displaced due to the fire.
It is unknown how many units in the apartment building were damaged.
Firefighters worked for about an hour to extinguish the fire, putting it out just before 8 p.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
