Suspected drunken driver crashes into Dallas restaurant, critically injuring 1: officials

A 64-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with intoxication assault after her SUV hit a restaurant in far north Dallas Thursday night, police said.

One person is in critical condition after a suspected drunk driver crashed into a restaurant in far north Dallas Thursday night, officials said.

Jason Evans, a spokesperson for Dallas Fire-Rescue, said units were dispatched to 18204 Preston Road shortly after 8:30 p.m. following reports of a sport utility vehicle driving into a restaurant.

The restaurant, Speranza Ristorante Italiano, was open at the time of the accident. Evans said several customers were treated for minor injuries at the scene and four people were transported to local hospitals.

According to Dallas police, one person was in critical condition.

Police identified the driver as 64-year-old Jan Bennett. She was arrested and faces a charge of intoxication assault, authorities said.

A photo taken by Telemundo 33 and published by KXAS-TV shows the damaged exterior wall of the restaurant and broken furniture and other debris inside. According to Evans, none of the structural supports were damaged in the accident.
