H-E-B has purchased a vacant grocery store in Dallas, but don’t get too excited yet
H-E-B has purchased more property in Dallas, this time a building that housed an Albertsons until 2004, according to Star-Telegram news partner WFAA.
But that doesn’t mean the 4101 W Wheatland Road property, near the intersection of Interstate 20 and U.S. 67, will be home to an H-E-B anytime soon. The company has not announced any plans to redevelop the property or move one of their stores into it, WFAA reported.
“H-E-B takes a long-term view of our growth and we have a portfolio of landholdings,” company spokesperson Mabrie Jackson said in a statement to WFAA. “We look forward to serving more Texans with our multi-format store offerings.”
H-E-B did not reply to a request from the Star-Telegram for interview.
The area in which H-E-B bought the property is identified by the USDA as having poor access to food. The Food Access Research Atlas indicates the area to be low income and low access where a significant number or share of the residents live at least a half mile to 10 miles of the nearest grocery store.
The property bought by H-E-B has a store with 58,940 square feet of space, according to KXAS-TV (NBC 5).
H-E-B last year announced plans to construct and open stores in Plano and McKinney in the fall of this year.
