52-year-old man killed, another man injured in southwest Dallas shooting, police say
A 52-year-old man was killed and another man was injured in a shooting in southwest Dallas on Wednesday night involving multiple people and vehicles, police said.
The 52-year-old’s identity wasn’t immediately released.
Police didn’t describe the condition of the other man, who was shot in the torso. Department spokesperson Melinda Gutierrez said police didn’t have an update on his condition Thursday morning. She only knows he hasn’t died, she told the Star-Telegram over the phone.
Officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Wood Valley Drive at 11:25 Wednesday night, Gutierrez said in an email. Neighbors had heard gunshots, she said, and saw multiple vehicles drive away as the 52-year-old man lay in the middle of the street.
At the same time, the driver of a panel van crashed into a fire hydrant on South Cockrell Hill Road north of Illinois Avenue, Gutierrez said. He was the second victim of the shooting who suffered a gunshot wound to the torso. He told police he was connected to the other shooting victim, and “that someone had shot at them,” she said.
Photos from Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV showed a cluster of Dallas police cars and officers near the site of the crash on South Cockrell Hill Road. Yellow police tape hung across the street, blocking it off to traffic.
Dallas Fire Rescue took both of the victims to a hospital, where the 52-year-old was pronounced dead, according to police.
No suspects were in custody as of Thursday morning, Gutierrez said.
