A driver was killed Thursday night on a Dallas road when he crashed his car into a steel light pole and caused it to flip over onto its top as he was trying to pass other vehicles, police said.

Abraham Arcos, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arcos was driving a gray 1996 Isuzu Rodeo northeast in the 9200 block of Garland Road around 10:05 p.m. Thursday, police said in an email. He failed to stay in a single lane of traffic as he was passing other vehicles, eventually driving up onto the center median, police said. The car then slammed into a light pole and flipped over.

It wound up upside down in the left lane of northeast Garland Road, police said.

The department notified the next of kin before releasing the victim’s name, police said.
