Ninth Dallas County coronavirus patient had traveled beyond Texas, authorities say

A ninth person who lives in Dallas County was presumptively determined to have developed COVID-19, public health authorities said Friday.

The patient who tested positive, who is in his or her 80s and had traveled beyond Texas, is a Dallas resident, according to a WFAA-TV report that cited Dallas County Health and Human Services.

The person is being treated at a hospital and is not connected to previous coronavirus cases in the region.

Community gatherings of more than 500 people were on Thursday banned in Dallas County, as authorities issued a local state of disaster in an effort to contain the spread of the virus.

In Tarrant County, the personal connections of a third resident who was presumed on Friday to have developed COVID-19 indicates limited local transmission of the coronavirus in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, officials said.

The resident is a contact of a person in Collin County who is also presumed to have the coronavirus. Five people in Collin County tested “presumptive positive” this week for COVID-19.
