Off-duty Dallas officer critically injured in crash while street racing, police say

An off-duty Dallas officer who was street racing with another car Sunday afternoon lost control and crashed into a tree, leaving him critically injured, police said.

Officer Joseph George, a four-year veteran of the department, remained in critical condition Monday, police said. The department’s trying to identify the driver of the other car, who fled the scene Sunday.

A black Ford Mustang, driven by George, was racing a white two-door Suzuki around 1:40 p.m. in the 7200 block of East Mockingbird Lane, police said. Witnesses couldn’t describe the model of the Suzuki, police said, but detectives obtained video footage of the car leading them to believe it’s a two-door Suzuki Coupe.

The Mustang lost control at some point during the race, police said, and slammed into a tree, police said.

The Suzuki fled the scene and was last seen heading eastbound on Mockingbird Lane.

Anyone with information on the car or the driver is asked to call Detective K. Land at 214-671-0014 or Detective J. Massey at 214-671-0012, police said.
