Medical examiner identifies man killed at Fort Worth Independence Day party

The Fort Worth Independence Day shooting that killed one near Lake Arlington is being investigated as a justifiable homicide, according to a police report.

The shooting at the July 4 holiday celebration killed one man and put another in the hospital, police said. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased man as 25-year-old Jalon Jackson, according to online records.

Jackson and the other man were watching a boxing match near the lake when they began to fight over a woman they both knew, witnesses and police at the scene said. Both men then pulled out guns and shot each other, police said.

Police at the scene in the 5900 block of Wilbarger Street recovered over a dozen fired shell casings from nine-millimeter pistols, according to the report. Police also impounded a 2021 Dodge Challenger and swabbed it for DNA, and seized electronic devices including an iPhone and a pair of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

No one has been arrested in connection with the case and the investigation is ongoing, Fort Worth police said.
