North Texas feds arrest dozens and seize hundreds of pounds of narcotics
Federal authorities seized over 150 pounds of various illegal drugs in North Texas alone as part of a nationwide initiative earlier this year to crack down on gang activity, U.S. attorneys said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s “Operation Spring Cleaning” led to the seizure of 11.7 pounds of cocaine, 27.3 pounds of methamphetamine and 127.9 pounds of marijuana in North Texas, according to a statement from the U.S. attorney’s office.
Additionally, investigators seized $273,000 of U.S. currency, $20,000 worth of jewelry, a Mercedes-Benz and 73 firearms, according to the statement. The seizures were conducted during the execution of six search warrants in the area.
“Operation Spring Cleaning is another example of how the FBI is working with our partners to combat illegal gang activity,” said FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rothrock. “We will continue to work together to reduce violent crime and increase safety in our North Texas communities.”
27 people were arrested and charged in the region in connection with the initiative, according to the statement.
Nationwide, the operation resulted in over 1,100 arrests and the seizure of 1,000 illegal firearms and over 2,700 pounds of illegal narcotics, the statement reads.
