Man armed with machete killed by bystander after dragging a woman, police say
A man was shot and killed by a bystander after dragging a woman while armed with a machete in north Fort Worth on Sunday night, according to police.
On Sunday, at about 10:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of Ross Avenue responding to a person with a weapon call.
When they arrived, officers found a man with an apparent gunshot wound. Officers and the Fort Worth Fire Department provided medical care, and the man was taken to a hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead.
Officers learned that the man and a woman were having an argument. Witnesses stated that the man was dragging the woman down the street with a machete in his hand. Neighbors heard the woman screaming for help and one resident came outside and told the man to stop.
The man who was dragging the woman then approached the resident with the machete, and the resident shot him at least one time, police said in a news release.
Witnesses called the police, and the resident who shot the man remained on scene to be interviewed by homicide detectives.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the man who died.
