The Texas Department of Public Safety said that Victor Mata Villarreal, the suspect in the Midland mass shooting on June 12., died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The autopsy results released on Tuesday confirmed this, according to the DPS.

Villarreal was found dead in an abandoned veterinarian’s office building where he had barricaded himself during a standoff with law enforcement after he opened fire at residents and police on Wall Street, according to a Texas DPS news release.

The shooting left 10 victims injured and one dead, the Star-Telegram previously reported.

The victim who died was identified as Edward Randall Scott, 62, of Midland.

Villarreal was already wanted by police for an incident earlier in the week on June 10, when he fired shots at a Midland police officer, authorities said.
