Carbon monoxide prompts evacuation of state prison in Wise County; inmates to move

About 500 inmates at a state prison in Bridgeport were evacuated on Wednesday when carbon monoxide was detected there, authorities said.

No injuries were reported at the prison near Highway 380 in Wise County, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The facility’s inmates are men, and it has a capacity of 520.

The TDCJ drove the prison’s 513 inmates to the Lindsey and Allred prison units in Jacksboro and Iowa Park.

Technicians were to make repairs at the Bridgeport prison.
