Father, sons argued with club security guard before fatal Fort Worth shooting: cops

An east Fort Worth night club customer shot a club security guard in the back of the head and continued shooting into the victim’s body after he fell to the ground of a parking lot, according to a woman who was shot at the same time early Sunday.

When Dominique Coleman was shot, he was with the perpetrator, Dadrian Freeman, in a lot across the street from Club New Start with the shooter’s father, Dedrian Freeman Sr., and brother, Dedrian Freeman Jr., according to the account of the woman that is described by a detective in a murder arrest warrant affidavit for Dadrian Freeman. The Freemans were unknown to the woman, who did not use their names in her identifications.

Dadrian Freeman also fired a handgun upon the woman, with rounds entering her shoulder and the purse that she was holding, according to the affidavit. A projectile hit a handgun that was inside her handbag.

Security guard Dominique Coleman, 38, was fatally shot after an argument with customers outside Club New Start on Miller Avenue in Fort Worth early Sunday morning, May 10, 2026, according to police.

The woman, whose name the police redacted from the affidavit, was also pistol-whipped by the suspect, who hit her in the head several times with the butt of the gun, according to the affidavit. She identified the three Freemans as being in an argument with Coleman in the parking lot of H & J Hamburgers, a restaurant in the 4500 block of Miller Avenue. She identified Dadrian Freeman, 21, as the shooter, according to the affidavit.

Fort Worth Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives Douglas Day and Norman Abrams interviewed the woman, who is 35, at a hospital.

Coleman, 38, was working at Club New Start about 5:45 a.m. when the argument began outside between the security guard and Dedrian Freeman Sr., whom the woman said she saw pull a handgun from his pocket. The father and sons were customers at the club, which is at 4505 Miller Ave., according to police.

The argument continued across the street. The woman tried to pull Coleman away by his collar before he was shot, she told police.

Coleman was pronounced dead in the restaurant parking lot.

The Freemans left the scene after the shooting, police said.

Homicide detectives identified a suspect vehicle that led to Dadrian Freeman. Police executed a search warrant in Dallas County and arrested him Sunday night. Dedrian Freeman Sr., 46, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, police said. Dedrian Freeman Jr., 22, was arrested on an unrelated warrant from Collin County.

The affidavit does not indicate whether detectives interviewed the Freemans after their arrest.
