Saginaw officer shoots man during fight while serving arrest warrant, police say
A Saginaw police officer shot and injured a man while serving a felony arrest warrant at a house on Thursday morning, the department said in a news release.
About 7:50 a.m., officers went to a home in the 1300 block of North Creek Drive to serve the warrant, police said. The man, who was the suspect named in the warrant, resisted arrest and got into a “physical confrontation” with the officers, according to the release. During the fight, one officer fired a gun and shot the man, police said.
Officers provided first aid until medics arrived and took the man to a hospital. His condition was unknown Thursday afternoon. His name and details of the warrant for his arrest have not been released.
The Saginaw Police Department asked the Texas Rangers to conduct an independent investigation of the shooting and present their findings to the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
Saginaw police will conduct a separate administrative investigation to determine whether department policies and procedures were followed.
No officers were injured, according to a social media post by the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas. CLEAT is a union that represents law enforcement officers across the state.
There was still a large police presence in the residential neighborhood, which is off West Bailey Boswell Road near the intersection of North Creek Drive and Knowles Drive, late Thursday morning.
Crime scene tape blocked off part of the street at that intersection, and a helicopter circled overhead. The Texas Rangers also were at the scene investigating.
In a statement, the Texas Department of Public Safety said the Rangers’ investigation is ongoing and no further details will be released at this time.
