4 injured in knife attack at Richardson bar; suspect fatally shot by officers
Four people were injured in a knife attack at a Richardson bar and live music venue Wednesday night, and the suspect was fatally shot by officers, police said.
Officers were called to Good Vibes Bar and Grill at 2121 W. Buckingham Road about 10 p.m. A man with a knife was threatening to hurt several people at that location, Richardson police said in an online news release.
The suspect was standing outside the entrance when police arrived. He ignored multiple commands to drop his knife, according to the release. Two officers fired their service weapons, and the suspect went down. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Responding officers provided medical aid to several people who’d been attacked and injured by the suspect. Four of them were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Police say they are investigating the knife attack and officer-involved shooting. There is no ongoing threat to the public. The suspect hasn’t been publicly identified.
Good Vibes Bar and Grill will be closed Thursday due to the incident, co-owner Jay Smith said on Facebook. He reported that some of the staff were “pretty shook up” by the incident.
“This was extremely unnecessary and I pray for resilience, healing and steadfast love for all involved,” Smith posted. “We are strong and we will persevere!”
Police say they will release more information as it becomes available.
