Texas Attorney General’s investigators fatally shot armed man in Fort Worth, DPS says
A man was fatally shot by state investigators who were serving an arrest warrant for indecency with a child at an apartment complex in far north Fort Worth near Tanger Outlets mall on Tuesday, authorities said.
Investigators with the Texas Office of the Attorney General were serving the arrest warrant at an apartment in the 3600 block of Outlet Boulevard, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The suspect, identified as Matthew Cruz, was found hiding in the apartment, the release stated.
Cruz was in a confined area close to the investigators, according to DPS. The 36-year-old man was armed with a knife and he did not comply with the investigators’ commands, the release stated.
Investigators fired their guns, striking Cruz, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to DPS. No officers or residents were injured.
The shooting remains under investigation by DPS’ Texas Rangers division. The Fort Worth Police Department was on the scene to assist.
