A North Texas mother accused of medically abusing her 3-year-old son was arrested for violating a no-contact bond condition, according to court documents.

Kaitlyn Rose Laura, 31, of Glen Rose, is accused of lying about her son’s medical history to get unnecessary treatments — also known as Munchausen syndrome by proxy — including a feeding tube at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth and Children’s Medical Center Dallas and forcing him to use a wheelchair, according to an arrest warrant affidavit prepared by Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office Detective Michael Weber.

Laura, who faces charges of serious bodily injury to a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, was released on a bond from the Tarrant County Jail on March 29, according to court records. Her son was removed from her care by Texas Child Protective Services.

The conditions of her bond included no contact with immediate family members or children under 17, according to court documents.

However, Laura’s common-law husband Dustin Herring picked her up from community supervision in Fort Worth and took her to a motel, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by CBS Texas.

Herring, who has custody of her two younger children, also brought her clothes and other belongings, the affidavit states. Investigators found that the couple was using a burner phone to contact each other despite knowing the bond rules.

In a text conversation Laura asked Herring to pick her up and wrote, “I want to see you and I hate they’re keeping me away from the boys,” according to the affidavit.

Detectives reviewed a jail telephone call between the couple where a child can be heard saying, “Hi, Mommy, I miss you,” to which Laura replied, “Hi, baby, I miss you,” the affidavit states.

During an interview with detectives, Herring denied any contact with Laura or coming to Fort Worth to pick up Laura. He was later confronted about a message he sent to Laura and admitted that he picked her up at community supervision and took her to the hotel where he had rented a room, according to the affidavit.

A motion was filed by Laura’s attorney to reinstate her bond after the second arrest. According to court records, a judge reinstated her bond on Friday, April 10, and she has been released from jail.
