A Fort Worth police officer shot a man who was firing a gun toward homes during a domestic disturbance call on Bonita Drive Wednesday night, police said.

The wounded man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said in a news release early Thursday. No officers were injured.

The shooting occurred after officers were called to a house in the 4200 block of Bonita Drive about 9:40 p.m. According to a 911 call log, a caller reported that her boyfriend was assaulting her at that address.

When officers responded, they saw a man in the street firing gunshots in the direction of homes, Police Chief Eddie Garcia said in a news conference at the scene. The officers confronted the man, but he didn’t obey their commands to drop the gun and approached officers while still armed, Garcia said.

One officer fired and shot the man, according to Garcia. Officers took the injured man into custody and provided medical aid until he could be transported to a hospital. His condition is listed as stable, Garcia said.

Detectives from the Major Case Unit are investigating the shooting. Police will release more information about the investigation at a later news conference, Garcia said.

This was the second shooting involving Fort Worth police this month. On March 12, an officer fatally shot a man who ran toward the officer with a broken glass bottle in his hand on a bridge on U.S. 287, police said.
