One person was killed and another seriously injured after two emergency vehicles collided during a World of Outlaws sprint car race at Kennedale Speedway Park on Saturday night.

Kennedale police officers and firefighters responded to the crash about 9 p.m. at the Kennedale Speedway Park, at 6737 Hudson Village Creek Road, officials said in a news release.

A driver’s car rolled over while approaching the starting line for the Last Chance Showdown race. While responding to help, two World of Outlaws emergency vehicles collided and the drivers were thrown out of the vehicles in the infield, officials said.

The race official who died will be identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. Police said the other official was taken to an area hospital in a serious condition.

Marcus Thomas, a sprint car driver, was riding in the car that rolled over, ESPN reported. Thomas was not seriously injured, officials reported.

“The Kennedale Fire Department sends our thoughts and prayers to the family of the race officials involved in the tragic incident Saturday night at Kennedale Speedway Park,” the fire department said in a social media post. “We are also thinking about the World of Outlaws family and the many who were in attendance at this event. We pray for healing and support.”

“We at Kennedale Speedway Park send our thoughts and prayers to his family & friends. We also know how much this hurts the World of Outlaws family. We will continue to pray for Godspeed for quick healing of the injured official, as well,” Kennedale Speedway Park officials said in a social media post.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this tragedy and the racing community,” Kennedale police said in the release.
