Man shot and killed in Fort Worth’s Northside early Sunday; 17-year-old arrested

A 28-year-old man was shot to death early Sunday in Fort Worth’s Northside and a teenager was arrested in the killing, authorities said.

Five people were detained for questioning, and 17-year-old Maverik Parish was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Enrique Avila, according to police and medical examiner’s office records.

Avila was shot about 2 a.m. in the 2000 block of East Long Avenue in the Diamond Hill neighborhood, authorities said.

Avila was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers found in the area of the shooting scene the suspect vehicle, which witnesses described as a black sport utility vehicle, Fort Worth police said.

Police have not released what they believe to be the killing’s motive.
