Man shot to death in east Fort Worth motel parking lot, police say

A man was shot dead late Tuesday in the parking lot of a motel in east Fort Worth, police said.

The man was fired upon about 11:15 p.m. at the motel in the 5800 block of East Lancaster Avenue.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the homicide victim as 34-year-old Markell Smith. His death was caused by a gunshot wound of the chest. Smith suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died in the parking lot.

Smith was in the lot with another man at the time of the shooting, Fort Worth police said.

Police have not arrested the shooter.
