Suspect in White Settlement murder fled to Mexico; 3 others arrested, police say

White Settlement police have arrested three people in connection with the city’s first homicide since 2022, and a fourth suspect is on the run in Mexico, Police Chief Christopher Cook said Tuesday.

Marissa Nicole Ocon, 23; Julian Xavier Ramirez 17; and Maribel Apodaca-Guzman, 31; were arrested in connection to the Jan. 30 shooting death of 33-year-old Savanna Parker, according to arrest warrant affidavits.

The fourth suspect, a male teenager believed to be the shooter, fled into Mexico with Apodaca’s assistance, officials said. White Settlement police are working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Marshals Service and Mexican authorities to apprehend the juvenile suspect, whose name was not released.

On the day of the shooting, Ramirez and the juvenile broke into Parker’s home and began to ransack it, Cook said. The intruders appeared to be looking for something or someone inside the home, the chief said.

Parker called police and began recording the home invasion incident on her cellphone before confronting the intruders, according to the affidavits.

At that point, the juvenile shot Parker multiple times, and the suspects fled the area in a gray Chevrolet Cruze driven by Ocon, Cook said.

Officers with the Fort Worth Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center were able to identify and track the vehicle as it left the scene of the shooting and traveled through Fort Worth before stopping in the 8300 block of Horned Maple Trail, according to the warrant for Ocon’s arrest.

In an interview with White Settlement police, Ocon admitted to being the driver of the Cruze, picking up the suspects and taking them to the scene of the crime on Jan. 30, according to the affidavit. When the suspects got out of the car near the victim’s home, they told Ocon to wait down the street and they returned a short time later, instructing Ocon to leave the area “in a hurry,” the affidavit states.

A co-conspirator identified Ramirez as a suspect in the case, according to an affidavit supporting his arrest.

Police contacted officials with the Lake Worth Independent School District, who confirmed Ramirez was a student at Lake Worth High School and had been absent on the day of the shooting, according to the warrant. During an interview with police at the high school, Ramirez admitted to being with the juvenile shooter at Parker’s home and watching the juvenile shoot through the door.

Ramirez identified himself and the juvenile shooter in a still image taken from the video on Parker’s cellphone, according to the warrant for his arrest. Ramirez was arrested Monday on school property, Cook said.

Both Ramirez and Ocon face capital murder charges.

Apodaca, who faces a charge of hindering apprehension, is accused of helping the juvenile male suspect escape into Mexico, according to an affidavit supporting her arrest warrant. On Feb. 1, Apodaca tried to take the juvenile to relatives in Houston, where her car was seen on surveillance footage, the affidavit states.

The relatives in Houston declined to help, so Apodaca then took the juvenile to relatives in El Paso, according to the affidavit. Apodaca instructed a relative in El Paso to take the juvenile to a bus station, which the relative did. Additional information obtained during the investigation suggests Apodaca intended to flee to Mexico with the suspect as well, officials said.

If the FBI determines additional people were involved with getting the suspect out of the country, additional arrests for hindering prosecution could be made, Cook said.

The outstanding suspect has a delinquent conduct arrest warrant through juvenile court, Cook said. The case against him will originate in juvenile court, though prosecutors could later decide to have the suspect certified and tried as an adult.
