Inmate recaptured after second escape in as many days from Tarrant jail custody
An inmate has been recaptured after escaping from a Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office laundry facility on Tuesday, the second escape from custody this week.
The inmate was confirmed to have escaped from the facility, located on Resource Drive near Southeast Loop 820 in Fort Worth, about 1 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office said.
The inmate, identified as 26-year-old Victor Castillo, was recaptured around 30 minutes later in a dry riverbed, officials said in a statement.
Castillo was a trustee working in the laundry facility when he took off his uniform and escaped wearing boxers and an undershirt, according to the statement. He was being held on charges of possession of a controlled substance.
The Tuesday incident was the second escape in as many days for the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office.
Carlos Enrique Rodriguez Romero escaped at about 11:45 a.m. Monday while being transferred back to jail after a court appearance. Romero ran away barefoot and pantless in the 4600 block of Mark IV Parkway, officials said.
Rodriguez Romero was recaptured on the grounds of a trailer park a few blocks away, the Star-Telegram previously reported. He was initially booked Dec. 4 on charges of aggravated robbery and tampering with a government record and was jailed without bond on an immigration hold.
“[Rodriguez Romero] is a little fella, and once on the van, the best information I have right now is that he was able to slip out of the cuffs, jimmy the door, and he left the van,” Sheriff Bill Waybourn told WFAA.
In a statement after Castillo’s escape, Waybourn called the two incidents “isolated” and said they were not reflective of overall security at the jail.
