Grand Prairie middle school teacher faces student grooming charges
A Grand Prairie middle school teacher faces student grooming charges after a police investigation that started in October, school officials said.
Kelvin Leiva was arrested at his home on Jan. 8, according to a letter to parents from Arnold Middle School Principal Dexter Dixon.
District officials received an anonymous report Oct. 23 that Leiva had engaged in “inappropriate communication with a student,” the letter states. He was placed on administrative leave and hasn’t been on campus since that time.
The Grand Prairie Police Department took over the investigation into the accusations against Leiva on Oct. 24. He was arrested “on third-degree felony charges related to the alleged grooming of a student,” according to the letter.
Leiva was an English Language Arts teacher at Arnold Middle School, according to the school’s website. His name has since been removed from the website.
