A former North Texas ISD police officer was arrested on suspicion of having sexual relations with a student, police said.

Israel Demello, 26, of Denton, who was formerly employed as a police officer with the Sanger Independent School District, was arrested Jan. 14, Sanger police said in a news release.

Sanger police were notified in November that Demello allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a student at Sanger ISD, according to police.

Demello was immediately placed on administrative leave by the Sanger ISD, police said.

After a criminal investigation, an arrest warrant was issued by the Denton County Magistrate’s Court. Demello faces charges for improper relationship between educator and student, sexual assault of a child, sexual performance by a child, and indecency with a child by sexual contact, police said.

Demello was booked into the Denton County Jail, police said.
