Grand Prairie man shoots wife in murder-suicide after shooting son in face: cops

A Grand Prairie man shot his wife and killed himself in an apparent murder-suicide at the family’s home, according to Grand Prairie police. The man also shot his adult son in the face during the domestic dispute, police said.

The man and wife had been in an argument and when the son intervened, the suspect shot him, investigators found.

The son fled to a neighbor’s house and called police about 10 p.m. Sunday, and a SWAT team responded to the home in the 1600 block of Avenue B.

Once officers arrived, they tried to get in touch with the suspect but were unable to. Knowing the wife was inside, the tactical officers forced the door open and were immediately met with rifle gunfire from the suspect, a 62-year-old man, police said in a news release.

Officers returned fire and the man fled toward the interior of the home, police said. A Grand Prairie officer was struck by ricochet gunfire and suffered minor injuries.

When officers entered the home, they found the wife in a bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds and the suspect in a bathroom with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by Grand Prairie Fire Department medics. Once the next of kin is notified, the identification of the suspect and his wife will be made public.

The officer who was injured and the son were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The son is expected to survive.

Per departmental policy, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Officer‐Involved Shooting Team responded to the scene and is conducting an independent investigation. The Grand Prairie Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards will also be conducting a concurrent administrative investigation.
