A 68-year-old man who assaulted his wife and barricaded himself inside a Grapevine home early Wednesday was arrested following a standoff with SWAT, police said.

Officers responded to a domestic disturbance call about 1: 30 a.m. at a home in the 400 block of Brewer Street, Grapevine police said in a news release.

Police said the 911 caller was a neighbor of the woman who was assaulted, who arrived at his house “frantic” and asking for help.

The woman told officers that her husband, James David Hilton, woke her by holding a 9mm handgun to her forehead, threatening to kill her. He then repeatedly hit her with the gun, the woman told police, according to the release.

Hilton locked himself inside the house and refused to speak with officers, police said. A SWAT team then arrived with a negotiator, police said.

After an arrest warrant was issued, the SWAT team made contact with Hilton, who left the house without incident and was taken into custody, according to the release.

Hilton faces a charge of aggravated assault and is being held in the Grapevine Jail. The woman was offered medical treatment, police said.
