A suspect was arrested Tuesday after a woman shot outside a Fort Worth motel on Dec. 12 died at the hospital, police said.

Jacqueline Rodriguez, 23, was arrested on an outstanding murder warrant related to the shooting, Fort Worth police said in a news release.

Officers responded to the Valley Motel at 1850 Jacksboro Highway about 5:20 a.m. after a woman had been shot in the stomach by an unknown person.

The woman, identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as 37-year-old Jessica Stephanie Gonzales, was shot while helping a man try to recover his vehicle, police said.

Gonzales was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries, police said.

The car had been stolen but not yet reported to police. The two people inside the stolen car got out and ran away, according to the release.

Police said they’ve learned the car may have been involved in a separate drive-by shooting earlier in the day on Dec. 12. Detectives are working to confirm if it was the same vehicle, police said.
