Suspect arrested in south Fort Worth car shooting that killed 21-year-old
Police have arrested a suspect who they allege shot and killed a man in a car Saturday evening in far south Fort Worth.
Deron “Fat” Morris, 20, was booked Sunday on suspicion of murder in the killing of 21-year-old Malachi Hansard near the intersection of Brookhaven Trail and Altamesa Boulevard. Hansard was a passenger in a car when Morris, in another vehicle, opened fire, police allege.
While the driver steered away from the gunfire, Hansard bled from the mouth and tried to signal that he had been shot, according to an arrest warrant affidavit written by Detective Norman Abrams of the Fort Worth Police Department’s Homicide Unit.
Hansard’s death was caused by a gunshot wound of the back, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Detectives interviewed a witness who said Morris was the shooter, according to the affidavit.
The shooter fired from a red 2025 Hyundai Tucson, according to surveillance video. In the video, the passenger window is still open as the Hyundai travels south after the shooting, passing the camera.
A driver’s license photo of Morris taken in August 2024 appears to match the skin tone, hairstyle and other physical features seen in the surveillance video of the shooting, according to the affidavit.
Morris on Sunday denied being in the Hyundai or shooting Hansard, according to the affidavit.
