Driver is shot and crashes car into light pole in east Fort Worth, police say
Police are investigating a shooting that led to a driver crashing into a light pole in east Fort Worth on Monday afternoon.
Officers were dispatched to the shooting at the intersection of East Berry Street and South Edgewood Terrace about 3 p.m. Monday, according to the 911 call log.
A police spokesperson confirmed a victim was found shot in a car at that location.
According to the 911 call log, the gray sedan hit a utility pole and the driver, an approximately 30-year-old man, passed out.
The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, a spokesperson from the Fort Worth Fire Department said.
Investigators believe that prior to the shooting, an argument took place near a convenience store between the man and two people who were in a large pickup truck. At least one gunshot was fired at the driver of the sedan at some point after both vehicles left the store, police said.
Police in the Real Time Crime Center identified the pickup truck, and officers detained both people inside the truck, the spokesperson said. They were taken in for questioning.
Jail records show that a suspect was arrested and booked into the city jail on Monday night. Christopher Blanton, 29, faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the case, according to jail records.
