A 63-year-old Texas woman has been indicted in an attempted murder case after authorities say she hatched a plot to kill her ex-husband.

Pamela Jean Stanley was recorded telling an acquaintance she wanted to buy powdered fentanyl to “inject” into a box of chocolates, the Parker County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Friday. She planned to mail the drug-laced candy to her ex-husband, who’d recently gotten engaged to another woman, authorities said.

Stanley intended to make the chocolates appear to be a congratulatory gift from a travel agency, according to the release. They would be sent with a honeymoon incentive offer to make them appear legitimate.

The Sheriff’s Office was informed of Stanley’s plan and initiated a sting operation. The 63-year-old Coleman woman drove about 100 miles northeast to Parker County to buy fentanyl, the release states. She met undercover investigators posing as fentanyl sellers in a motel parking lot on May 30 and was arrested immediately after completing the purchase.

Stanley was in possession of methamphetamine when she was arrested, according to the release. She was booked into the Parker County Jail.

On Thursday, Stanley was indicted on charges of criminal attempt to commit murder, criminal solicitation with attempt to commit murder and possession of a controlled substance. She’s being held on a $550,000 bond, according to jail records.
