A 58-year-old man was shot and killed by Denton County sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday, June, 3, after he pointed a gun at them, authorities said.

Deputies were serving an arrest warrant about 2:45 p.m. to Kenneth Wayne Jones at a house in the 10000 block of Field Lark Lane near Sanger, according to a news release by the Denton County Sheriff’s Office.

When the deputies made contact with Jones, he failed to comply with “verbal commands and pointed a handgun at deputies,” according to the news release.

Deputies then shot Jones, according to the release.

Life-saving measures were performed on Jones until EMS arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the release stated.

The shooting occurred west of Sanger in unincorporated Denton County, roughly 17 miles north of Denton.

Further details about the arrest warrant or how many deputies were involved were not released.

The Texas Rangers will investigate the shooting, according to the news release.
