19-year-old killed by shooter who drove away in victim’s car, Arlington cops say
Arlington police are looking for the person who shot and killed a teenager and drove off with his car on Monday night.
Officers responded to an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Castle Gardens Drive, about 11 p.m., to investigate reports of shots fired.
When officers arrived, they found a 19-year-old man lying unresponsive in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds, police said. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the homicide victim as Desmond Ismael McKay.
McKay was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Witnesses told officers that McKay and another person arrived at the apartment complex in a 2016 Chrysler 200. McKay got out, and the other person reportedly tried to drive away in his car, police said.
McKay ran back toward the car and tried to prevent the driver from leaving, witnesses told police. During the struggle, multiple shots were fired.
Police said the shooter drove away from the scene.
Detectives learned the Chrysler 200 belonged to McKay. The car was found in Dallas on Tuesday morning, police said.
Police are following leads as they work to identify the suspected shooter, according to the release. No arrests have been made.
