A Mansfield man was shot and wounded by his wife at their home early Friday in a domestic violence incident, and the suspect is in custody, police said.

Officers responded to the North Texas couple’s home in the 2600 block of Woodbridge Trail about 1:40 a.m. The injured man told them his wife had fired around 10 shots at him while drunk, Mansfield police said in a news release Friday.

The man was shot twice, but managed to leave the house and get help, investigators said.

The suspect was still in the couple’s home, but an officer certified in crisis negotiation convinced her to come out, according to the release. She was arrested without incident.

The Mansfield Fire Department took the injured man to a hospital. He is expected to survive, officials said.

The suspect is identified in Mansfield Jail records as 61-year-old Dana Louise Gauvey. She faces a charge of aggravated assault/family violence.
