North Texas authorities are looking for a murder suspect who removed his ankle monitor and fled before a court hearing on Monday.

The search for Trevor McEuen started in the area of US 80 east of Grand Saline, the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post about 9 a.m.

Law enforcement officers conducted a thorough search to ensure public safety and cleared that area now that they believe McEuen has left, authorities said. The suspect has not been found, and authorities have not released further information about where he might be going.

“Our number one priority is the safety of all citizens of Van Zandt County,” Sheriff Kevin Bridger said in the post. “We are working diligently with our partner agencies to ensure the safety of all our citizens.”

McEuen was scheduled to appear in court in Kaufman County on Monday, May 5, on a capital murder charge, authorities said.

At around 5:30 a.m., McEuen removed his court-ordered ankle monitor and left his home, authorities said.

The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office said it is unknown whether McEuen fled on foot or in a vehicle, and there is no description of the clothing he may be wearing, in a social media post about 11 a.m.

Authorities also have not confirmed whether he is armed, according to the post.

McEuen was arrested on a murder charge in Kaufman County in 2023 in the fatal shooting of his neighbor, 35-year-old father Aaron Martinez. Martinez was shot more than 15 times in his pickup truck, his family told Star-Telegram media partner WFFA-TV at the time.

McEuen’s trial was scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

“The public is urged to remain vigilant and not approach McEuen if spotted,” authorities said.

Anyone with information regarding McEuen’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office at 469-376-4500 or reach out to Kaufman County Crime Stoppers.
