Live homemade explosive devices found in woods near North Texas park, police say
Bomb technicians defused several live homemade explosive devices that were found next to an open suitcase near a North Texas park on Sunday, authorities said.
Now, FBI investigators and working with Garland police detectives to find out how the explosives got there and who they belong to.
Garland police responded about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 30, after they received reports that suspicious items had been found in the woods near Wynne Park, in the area of West Centerville Road and South First Street, police said in a news release.
A resident who was walking found the open suitcase with “various items scattered nearby,” including “numerous live homemade explosive devices,” police said.
The Garland Police Department’s Bomb Unit and bomb technicians from the FBI were notified and responded to the scene.
“Bomb technicians worked through the day and into the night to safely render each device inoperative,” police said in the release.
No arrests have been announced in the case, and investigators said they are trying to determine the intent of whoever left the devices there.
