Man who drove from Oklahoma to Arlington to kill a musician gets life in prison: officials
A 58-year-old man who drove from Oklahoma to Arlington to fatally shoot a musician in 2019 has been sentenced to life in prison, Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney Phil Sorrells said Friday, March 28, on X.
A jury found Mark Anthony Washington guilty in the death of 29-year-old Juriah Fields, according to Sorrells’ post.
Fields was found with multiple gunshot wounds outside his south Arlington home the afternoon of April 15, 2019. He was pronounced dead a short time later at Medical City Arlington.
A neighbor reported hearing gunshots and seeing a white GMC sport utility vehicle speed away from the scene, according to Washington’s arrest warrant affidavit. Washington was arrested a few weeks later in Little Rock, Arkansas, on an unrelated charge.
Shells found at the scene matched those recovered at Washington’s home in Tulsa, the affidavit states, and toll records placed his white SUV in the proximity of Fields’ home around 45 minutes before the musician was shot.
Fields’ family members told police he’d been having some relationship trouble, according to the affidavit. Investigators found documents indicating the musician had been assaulted by a married woman. Her husband, Washington, blamed Fields for ruining his marriage.
Washington threatened to take both her and Fields to a secluded place and force her to shoot and kill Fields, the affidavit states.
Fields used the name “Juriah Jones” professionally. His cousin, Shelby McQueen-Wyman, told the Star-Telegram in 2019 that the 29-year-old was a recording artist and “a man of strong faith.”
“We will carry on his vision,” she said.
