Driver arrested on intoxication manslaughter in collision that killed woman in Colleyville
A drunken man was speeding before the sedan he was driving on Wednesday night collided in Colleyville with another car, killing a 62-year-old woman inside, police said.
A Volvo sedan was traveling north on Texas 26 before it collided about 9 p.m. with a Mitsubishi Mirage in the intersection with Cheek Sparger Road, Colleyville police said, attributing the account to witnesses.
Police arrested the driver of the Volvo, 35-year-old Jimmie Edwards of Irving, on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter and resisting arrest. Investigators said they determined that Edwards’ level of intoxication, combined with his admission of recent drug use and unsafe driving, was the primary cause of the crash.
Edwards was taken to a hospital for an evaluation and then booked at the Tarrant County Jail, where he is being held on $52,000 bond. He also had an outstanding warrant from another law enforcement agency on a charge of evading arrest with a vehicle, police said.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, who lived in Bedford, died at the scene. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified her as Briana Kew.
Kew was the only person in the Mitsubishi.
