A 30-year-old Fort Worth man faces a murder charge in connection with a fatal shooting Friday on Sandy Lane, according to jail records.

Darius Dewayne Stevenson was arrested following a police chase on Friday afternoon. He initially was booked on evading arrest and tampering with evidence. As the investigation continued, he was booked on Sunday on suspicion of murder, a police report states.

Stevenson is accused of killing 47-year-old Corey Sanders near the apartment complex where Sanders lived at 1450 Sandy Lane, in east Fort Worth.

Police have said that officers were called to the homicide scene about 10:45 a.m. on Friday, March 7, and found the victim with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Sanders was pronounced dead in the roadway, according to Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office records.

Investigators determined that the victim and the suspect were involved in an argument when the suspect pulled out a gun, shot the victim multiple times and drove away. Police have not said what the argument was about.

A short time later, officers found a car matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle and took the driver into custody following a chase, police said.

Stevenson is being held in the Tarrant County Jail with bond set at $275,000.
