A man was arrested at an east Fort Worth apartment complex after witnesses reported he was walking around with two guns and pointed a weapon at a least one person. A responding officer shot at the man, but he was not struck by the gunfire, police said.

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, around 11:45 a.m., officers responded to the Silver Leaf Villas after the leasing office of the complex, in the 8500 block of John T. White Road, told police that the armed man was standing outside the office and that employees and residents feared for their safety.

A witness told police that the suspect pointed a weapon at him and he asked the office to call police for help, police said in a news release.

A 911 caller reported the man had a handgun and a rifle.

Police found the armed man in the parking lot in front of the main office. Officers saw the man pulling a gun from his waistband, according to the release.

A foot chase started when a officer drew her gun and the man ran away, police said.

Fearing for her safety and the safety of people in the area, the officer fired her weapon at the armed suspect multiple times, police said. The suspect was not shot, and he continued running and barricaded himself in an apartment, police said.

A perimeter was set up by police and shortly after that, the suspect was taken into custody. Jail records identify him as Deron Morris, 42. He faces charges of aggravated assault against a public servant and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

A handgun and a rifle were recovered from the scene, police said.

No officers or other community members were injured.

Police said the department’s Major Case and Internal Affairs units will continue the investigation.

This was the second call on Wednesday where Fort Worth police fired shots. On a domestic disturbance call on Wednesday morning at a northwest Fort Worth home, officers fatally shot a man who charged at them with a knife in his hand, police said.
