Missing Texas woman’s remains found 5 years after she disappeared. Man charged with murder
A North Texas man was arrested and faces a murder charge in the death of a woman whose remains were positively identified five years after she was reported missing, Denton police said on Friday, Dec. 20.
Angelique Yvonne Hataway, 41, was reported by family members as a missing person in April 2019, after they last had contact with her in January of that year, detectives said.
Don Edward Bullard Jr., 60, shared a rented residence with Hataway in the 500 block of North Mayhill Road in Denton and was believed to be the last person to have seen her at the time of her disappearance, police said.
Detectives interviewed Bullard several times during multiple investigations, and he said he had no knowledge of her whereabouts, police said.
Police were notified of the discovery of possible human remains buried behind the residence on Mayhill Road on Sept. 10 of this year. They executed a search warrant on the property and human remains were recovered. Hataway’s personal belongings were also found near the remains, police said.
The human remains were compared against DNA samples given by family members and Hataway was positively identified on Dec. 17 by the Center for Human Identification at the University of North Texas Health Science Center.
An arrest warrant for Bullard was obtained on Thursday, Dec. 19, in connection’s to Hataway’s death based on the evidence and witness and suspect interviews, police said.
Bullard was already in custody in the Denton County Jail on unrelated charges. Jail records show he was arrested on Dec. 16 on a drug charge and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Bond has not yet been set for the murder charge, police said.
