A man wielding two knives was killed and a man with a gun injured in two North Texas officer-involved shootings Friday and Saturday, police said.

A 26-year-old man called 911 around 10:40 a.m. Dec. 13 to say he had “several” weapons and wanted to hurt police, the DeSoto Police Department said in a news release. Officers responded to the 1000 block of Hunters Creek Drive after another caller confirmed the man was at that location and armed with a knife.

Police encountered the man, identified as Arthur Lee Armstrong Jr., in the front yard. Armstrong had a knife in each hand and aggressively approached the officers, according to the release. He ignored multiple commands to drop the weapons.

The suspect continued to advance toward the officers, and one officer fired a single shot from his patrol rifle. Armstrong was hit in the chest, police said in the release. Officers immediately began lifesaving measures, but the 26-year-old was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital.

The officer who fired his patrol rifle has been placed on paid administrative leave per DeSoto Police Department policy while the incident is investigated. The Grand Prairie Police Department’s Investigative Services Bureau is leading the investigation, the release states.

The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Public Integrity Unit will conduct an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting, according to the release.

DeSoto police plan to share more details about the incident at a news conference Monday.

DeSoto is located in Dallas County, around 35 miles southeast of Fort Worth.

Weatherford police officers responded to a domestic disturbance at Cypress View Villas around 2 a.m. Dec. 14.

When they arrived at the apartment complex in the 200 block of Atwood Court, they found a man with a handgun, police said on social media.

The 40-year-old was shot by the responding officers, according to the post. Police did not say whether the man had fired his weapon or pointed it at the officers.

The suspect was transported to a Fort Worth hospital for treatment, the post states. The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.

The officers involved in the shootings have not been publicly identified.
