Boyfriend killed mother of 4 found in Fort Worth water department field, police say
A 32-year-old woman whose body was last week found lying in a Fort Worth field without pants was shot to death by her boyfriend, police allege.
A landscaping employee mowing a gated property owned by the City of Fort Worth Water Department discovered Taterea McGuire on Thursday, Dec. 5, in the 2600 block of Greenbelt Road.
McGuire was on the ground in her underwear, a shirt, socks and one shoe, according to a Fort Worth police account.
McGuire’s four children told a civilian working on behalf of detectives that their mother and LeDarren Tilley, whom police arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday, had a history of domestic violence. Tilley carries a gun or has it in a vehicle he owns, the children said.
Tilley’s involvement in her death is clear, police said, because McGuire’s children indicated that Tilley was the last person seen with McGuire alive, the suspect’s statements to police are contradicted by video evidence, and he admitted being in control for the entire night before her body was found the vehicle in which they left.
The affidavit prepared by a Fort Worth Police Department Homicide Unit detective that supports Tilley’s arrest suggests that he denied killing McGuire in an interview with two detectives.
Arlington police were investigating McGuire as a missing person after she was last seen by her family on Dec. 2.
McGuire’s mother wrote on a GoFundMe page that, “She was the sweetest person who would do anything for anyone.” The website is raising money for funeral expenses and to care for McGuire’s children.
When McGuire was reported missing, her mother explained to police that her daughter and Tilley, who is 37, had recently been fighting and that she had been unable to contact McGuire.
Surveillance video reviewed by police showed Tilley’s white Chevrolet Tahoe early on Dec. 3 driving to and from the area where the victim’s body was found, according to the affidavit.
The family told police that the couple left together in the Tahoe on the night of Dec. 2 and Tilley returned by himself the following morning.
Tilley told detectives that he and McGuire drove together to his sister’s house in Irving and that, after they argued, he dropped her off and went to his father’s home in Dallas, according to the affidavit.
