North Texas women taking 71 pounds of marijuana to London arrested in Washington D.C.
A North Texas woman was arrested at Washington Dulles International Airport after over 71 pounds of marijuana was discovered in her baggage, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a news release.
Du Li Park, 30, of The Colony, was arrested on Nov. 23 by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department.
Park is charged with felony possession with intent to distribute, transporting controlled substances into the Commonwealth, and narcotics conspiracy, the news release stated.
Customs and Border Protection officers were inspecting baggage being loaded onto a London-bound flight late on the night of Nov. 22. They found 60 vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana that had a street value of $330,000 in the United States, in Park’s two hard-sided suitcases, the release stated.
“Depending on potency, this load could fetch two to three times more in London,” the release stated.
According to Customs and Border Protection officers, this seizure is the latest in a trend of passengers smuggling bulk amounts of marijuana and hashish to Europe.
“Bulk marijuana smuggling is illegal, and Customs and Border Protection will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to hold smugglers accountable,” said Marc Calixte, CBP’s area port director for the Area Port of Washington, D.C. “Travelers who gamble with their freedom by smuggling bulk amounts of marijuana for a little extra cash may find themselves on the losing end of that proposition.”
