4,600 pounds of marijuana and $400K cash seized from North Texas warehouse by police, DEA
Police and DEA agents seized more than 4,600 pounds of marijuana and about $400,000 in cash when they executed a search warrant at a North Texas warehouse this week.
Detectives from the Farmers Branch Police Department and agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration served the narcotics search warrant at a commercial complex in the 2000 block of Valley View Lane on Wednesday, Dec. 4, according to a news release.
The months-long investigation in which detectives uncovered “a complex illegal drug operation” began with a tip from an informant, Farmers Branch police said in the release.
Suspects involved in the operation forged certificates of authenticity for legal hemp and CBD products and replaced the legal products with multiple illegal drugs such as marijuana/THC and psilocybin, police said. The contents were repackaged at the warehouse on Valley View and shipped to vape shops across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and to other cities in Texas and across the U.S., investigators found.
Police conducted undercover purchases of various items disguised as legal products and submitted the contents for testing, according to the release. A lab confirmed the products contained high levels of THC, some as high as 60-70%, and various concentrations of psilocybin, police said.
People who were inside the warehouse at the time of the search were briefly detained, but no arrests were made on site. The DEA is taking the lead on the investigation, which may lead to federal charges, police said.
