Wrong-way driver crashed into cars, shot at officer near Southlake shopping center: police
A wrong-way driver who had crashed into several cars pulled a rifle out of his vehicle and shot at a police officer and another driver outside a Southlake shopping center where a turkey giveaway was being held Friday morning, according to police.
Southlake DPS said the officer returned fire, but no injuries were reported in the incident and the suspect is in custody. Police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Sean Jordon, of Colleyville, who faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Officers initially received a call about the wrong-way driver going east in the 600 block of West Southlake Boulevard about 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, police said. The driver struck multiple vehicles in the area between Carroll and Central Avenues before crashing his car near Central Market in the 1400 block of East Southlake Boulevard, police said.
At the time of the shooting, hundreds of people were lined up for a Thanksgiving turkey giveaway at the Southlake Town Center shopping complex.
A witness, John Maxwell, told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV that he saw a crashed vehicle and then heard multiple gunshots.
“I’m sitting there and I start hearing — it’s like they always say, you think it’s fireworks and you look in your rearview mirror and you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, people are scattering, those were gunshots.’ It was probably – it was at least 10 gunshots,” Maxwell said. “I was glad to hear that nobody died, because it was a lot of gunshots.”
A manager with Markham Fine Jewelers told WFAA that a bullet hit a reinforced-glass window at the store.
Police asked residents to avoid the area while they investigated.
