H-E-B broke ground on its new Mid-Cities store Thursday morning.

“This is a milestone day for H-E-B in HEB,” said company spokesperson Mabrie Jackson, referring to the commonly used acronym for the Hurst-Euless-Bedford area.

The 126,000-square-foot store at 2105 Rio Grande Blvd. will straddle the Bedford-Euless line. It’s located down the street from the Glade Parks shopping center.

Euless Mayor Linda Martin said it was nine years ago when the city first learned that H-E-B had purchased land at the south end of the Glade Parks development.

“It’s going to bring jobs, traffic, an opportunity to try new things,” Martin told the Star-Telegram.

Jackson said the new store is expected to employee 600 workers. All job openings will be posted to the H-E-B Careers website.

In addition to a True Texas BBQ restaurant, the Mid-Cities H-E-B will be home to a gas station, car wash, drive-thru pharmacy and a bakery department featuring homemade artisan breads and the store’s signature tortillas. It is slated to open in mid-2026.

Bedford Mayor Dan Cogan said the Mid-Cities area has seen unprecedented economic growth and development in recent years, and the new H-E-B will make them “the envy of our surrounding cities.”

“I’m not kidding when I say that this store is the most anticipated retail opening in the history of our city,” Cogan said.

The Mid-Cities location is Tarrant County’s third H-E-B. Plans for the new store were announced in April, after Tarrant County’s first H-E-B opened in Alliance. The county’s second H-E-B opened in Mansfield in June.

The San Antonio-based grocer has aggressively expanded its presence in North Texas over the past two years; seven new stores have opened in the Metroplex since 2022.

The Mid-Cities store is the fifth H-E-B being built in the Metroplex. A Murphy store broke ground on Tuesday. The 122,000 square-foot store will be located at FM 544 and McCreary Road in Collin County. The Murphy location is also expected to open in 2026.

Work on a Rockwall location began in June. New stores are also under construction in Melissa and Prosper.

Work on an Irving store is expected to begin later this year. Combined, all six of the new stores will cost over $162 million to build, according to state records.

H-E-B is one of the largest private companies in the U.S., and had over $43.6 billion in sales in 2023. The grocer has over 435 stores across Texas and Mexico.
